Prerequisites

  • An Instagram Business or Creator account
  • A connected Facebook Page
  • Admin access to both accounts
  • A Chatoura agent with training data
Instagram messaging requires a connected Facebook Page. This is a Meta requirement.

Connecting Instagram

Go to Integrations

Navigate to Integrations > Instagram

Connect with Facebook

Click Connect Instagram (uses Facebook login)

Select accounts

Choose your Facebook Page and linked Instagram account

Grant permissions

Allow Chatoura to access Instagram messaging

Confirm connection

You’ll see a success message when connected

How It Works

  1. User sends a DM or replies to your Story
  2. Message is received by Chatoura
  3. Your AI agent generates a response
  4. Response is sent back as a DM

Story Interactions

When someone replies to your Story or mentions you:
  • The message includes context about the Story
  • AI can reference the Story in its response
  • Works the same as regular DM conversations

Viewing Sessions

All Instagram DMs appear in:
  • Chat History with Instagram icon badge
  • Individual session message threads
  • Lead profiles (if lead capture is enabled)

Escalation

When escalation is triggered:
  1. You receive a notification (email/Telegram)
  2. AI continues responding unless you pause the session
  3. You can respond directly on Instagram DMs
  4. Pause the session in Chat History if you want to handle manually

Disconnecting

  1. Go to Integrations > Instagram
  2. Click Disconnect
  3. Confirm removal

Troubleshooting

  • Ensure you have an Instagram Business or Creator account
  • Verify your Facebook Page is linked to Instagram
  • Check that you’re an admin of both accounts
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting your Facebook Page first
  • Verify “Handle story replies” is enabled
  • Check that the Story is still active (not expired)
  • Ensure permissions include story access
  • Instagram API may have slight delays
  • Check your response delay settings
  • Verify credit balance is sufficient
